Knowing the difference for yourself between Feelings vs Emotions can enhance personal growth. Defining for yourself your personal tools can lead you to successes. Healthy relations develop with boundaries of knowing difference between the two elements of self.

What are Feelings

Feelings are Fleeting and important inclinations of occurring events. You may have a feeling to be in a certain location or speak to the right person to get the dream job. Feelings and instincts do connect but also connect to Logic.

Feelings are essential and essences to how we observe and receive. How we express our feelings will lead to how we shift into our emotions. If we resist having our own healthy opinions, feelings and instincts we could limit ourselves from emotional experiences. In essence, we must let go of the logic of our feelings to enter into the depth of our emotions.

Feelings are the conscious space of thought. Many people are influenced by rumors instead of facts to have feelings about a topic or situation that may not in application be an outcome.

Relationships are healthier the more that feelings are defined. Feelings connect to initiation of boundaries in relationships.

Feelings and Emotion Releases

Releases of Feelings are the freedom to release thoughts and opinions you have. Actors and everyday people need and express their feelings usually from above their chest cavities.

Many Feelings can be only opinions that are authentically believed.

Having a feeling about a rumor or claimed fact will come from above the shoulders of an Actor who is on stage releasing the logic of that feeling.

When an emotion releases it releases from the gut or bellow the chin. The conviction of emotion will resonate with the person in a less tanging way and more of themselves will be expressed with the expression.

Releases of Emotions let go from within you and have a conviction with more depth than feelings do.

Are all Feelings Fleeting

Feelings are based out of initial insight, instincts and inclinations. Inclinations are very important in communication as they are receiving receptors in communication. When an Actor receives another Actor they will listen from different parts of themselves that will be seeable through their body language. The stimulus of physical sensation will be limited of emotional response remaining a conscious experience.

Many Actors want to break through this conscious level in their performing in Actor. Being able to find that gear to switch in acting is being able to find the difference within yourself of your own opinions, feelings and emotions.

How Feeling and Emotions Differ

To use feelings and emotions interchangeably doesn’t serve the person expressing. The emotional state of the expresser releases from different areas of themselves between emotions and feelings. The neuroscience of the brain connects to the psychology of body motions and body postures.

The interesting parts of acting to an audience is watching a feeling within an actor switch from the logical feelings to the emotional physical state. A visceral expression of human emotions liven the script and acting Imaginary Circumstances.

Which Comes First Feelings or Emotions?

Emotion and Feelings Differences

External Stimuli tell the difference between feelings being activated or emotions being activated. Think of emotions as being mature and feelings as being abundant inclinations. When a moment changes to a new moment in acting and life, there is an adjustment of both emotions activated and fresh feelings associated with the moment adding to the present real-time events.

Range of Emotions

The ability to access a range of emotions directly affects your talent. Talent is key in acting. Many actors feeling they can push the reality have big market share but short careers because they lack the talent of expanding their emotional ranges.

The body sensations come from different places with the different emotional ranges. Emotions get developed in certain areas of yourself the more you explore what’s the difference.

Do Emotions Have Emotions?

It is critical in acting that feelings arise as interaction occurs, which is how you know you are being real as an Actor. However, based upon the fact that once an Emotion is activated the feeling develops with mature transformation a pit in the stomach is often the bodily sensations.

After this initiation into expression your emotion tries to connect to find more expressive interaction when often times an additional feeling turns into a 2nd emotion. This is when an Emotion has another emotion. The person to person contact of two lovers will have more than one emotion activated. Feelings can and do work with imagination in order to determine different feelings about potential situations.

Thoughts and feelings aren’t the same thing. When you’re feeling the thought your inclining things about the thought more than just the thought itself.

When it comes to a past experience Emotions need Feelings to reactivate them into expressions. The influences of emotions are of course your feelings, instincts, and inclinations. Feelings are inclinations essentially tied to thought.

If you remember a point in you life you can find the particular emotion with the help of your feelings. You mind works to respond to the stress and anxiety you recollect which will make you able to feel activated thought process of feelings. The more you activate your feelings thought processes the more your feelings will be likely to trigger the deeper emotions.

Your basic emotions will experience fear or range or the emotion that your mind has attached to that feeling. Some emotions originate from thoughts and some from feelings. Inclinations of feelings also included visceral effects like sensations related to the emotions. When feelings become activated fully emotions become aware and are often triggered.

How Emotion and Feelings work Together with Maturity

Maturity of Feelings are really important for Actors. Having an instinct that only works from feelings will not mature into a deep feeling or change into an emotion. Difference of How Emotions vs Feelings Mature

Actually feeling a feeling will lead you to being opinionated and flamboyant. Actually maturing your emotions will take you into the depths of your soul and your emotional needs vs the observations of your feelings.

A matured feeling is a observation of a persistent inclination. A matured Emotion is an activation of a deep emotional internal state. A feeling that is mature is more certain than a fleeting moment but a emotion that is matured is certain and grounded internally, not just observation or assumption.

Depth of Emotion vs Feelings

The Depth of Emotion will help you understand how you are in your natural and raw state. The Depth of your feeling will instead define the clarity of your observation and inclination of feeling. Feelings need confirmations to become facts. Feelings require emotions in order to express their depth when they mature into deep feelings.

Your emotional engine turns gears when a feeling turns from just an inclination receptor into an emotion.

Understand Emotions have more Depth

Understanding your emotional self is your job towards humanity. Rather than looking outward towards the way of looking that other control your internal self, look inward to express your depth to the outside world. Interaction is the element that may help you gain insight to be able to understand your own emotions.

Cognition of emotion require some sort of introspection with interaction. The interaction with your emotion could be a self involved activity like assembling a bicycle you need to get to your work or repairing a tent you need for a camping trip.

How to Accept the Depth of your Emotions?

Actors use interaction in acting activity exercises to accept the depth of their emotions. Other adult activities that work to process emotions are adult coloring books, building a ship in a bottle, other semi difficult tasks that focus on a doing that allows processing.

Grounding your Feelings is a technique in a process called Emotional Preparation in acting. Emotional Activation relies upon activating either a feeling or an emotion to ground within it until it starts to affect the Actor internally. Once the internal Emotional Activation sparks a flow of emotion which could have started as a feeling will be ready for interaction.

Finding the skills to achieve turning an feeling into an emotion is the definition of the craft of acting. Normal everyday people can use activities to ground their feelings to determine self reflection. Self reflection of feelings can take them deeper to find the Emotional undercurrent.

Can Feelings be Measured?

The reality to measuring your feelings is difficult because we are always changing and developing. Emotions that feelings start the process of literally change from a feeling of inclination to a solid force of emotion. The human growth that occurs when emotion comes our from working with these talents will change the psychology and physiology of the individual. Hence, the individual will recognize and access emotions or feelings in a different way. A couple of examples of emotions are the layers that get created when they are activated. It is key to note that emotions cannot just turn on a dime once activated. When we feel our emotions we gain the layers of emotional life in both life and acting.

When we find emotional depth it will come into ourselves like a roaring tide coming on shore and emotions will leave us in a layered way. Feelings on the other hand are fleeting until they become serious. The flirting of Feelings will lead to quick transitions being there one moment and changed the next.

Emotions can be Short-Lived

Many Emotions when first working with them will be short-lived. They will still be layers in order to release them but the emotional expression will be short lived pending upon the talent of the individual.

Actors who work with their emotions all the time will be able to keep up their emotional ranges in their acting for longer. People first experiencing emotions will have the expressions of their emotional outbursts not last that long.

Difference Between Feelings and Emotions

So to recap the differences between feelings and emotions one has to see the components of both. If you are able to identify when you have an inclination and know that difference to when you have an emotional state activated you will be more in control. Actors work hard to gain this control in their craft of acting so audiences can related cleanly to both their feelings, instincts and their emotions.

How Emotions Impact Behavior

Responsiveness will be affected when emotions are activated. Activated emotions will affect how well a person responds. Often Actors will say they have gotten into their character when they have been successful in full emotional activation in their acting. Your behavior of feelings vs emotions will lead you to discover but not fully mature your instincts.

Emotions Trigger Physiological Responses

Physiological responses are part of the rides people take having emotions. It is important to note that some psychologists will say that any emotion expressed is a mental illness and a sign of a person not being in control. How to Regret is a skill that needs to be learned by many different professions including acting. Actors have to Dive into real regrets in order to identify that emotion with an audience.

In fact, all of us need to know how to regret on our own personal life journeys. The Negative emotion of Regret can’t change the past but can be used in artistic ways of expression. What you’re feeling regret about can help you make better choices in the future.

People Regret Things Differently

People regret things differently. Some people regret things that they have done, while others regret things that they have not done. Some people regret both. Some people do not seem to regret anything at all.

Why do people regret different things? One theory is that people regret things that they can change. If someone regrets something that they have done, they may feel like they can fix it or make up for it. If someone regrets something that they have not done, they may feel like it is too late to change it.

Another theory is that people regret things that remind them of their own mortality. This could be something that they have done, or something that they have not done. It could be something as small as not taking a chance, or as big as not spending enough time with loved ones.

Action-related regrets are often written in scripts so you can learn from the experience the playwright has written.

The common feelings of regret are often isolating, making you feel you are the only one who experiences it. 

There are many things that can cause regret, but some of the most common include unfulfilled expectations, poor choices, and missed opportunities. We may regret not spending more time with a loved one who has passed away, or not taking a job that would have been a better fit for us.

Sometimes, we look back and realize that we could have done things differently, and this can lead to feelings of regret. Other times, we may simply be disappointed with how things have turned out, even though we made the best decisions we could at the time. There are a few different ways that you can incorporate emotions into your acting. One way is to use emotional memories, or “emotional recall.” Emotional Recall is one way to achieve Emotional Preparation. This involves recalling a past experience that evoked a strong emotion, and using that emotion in your performance. This can be helpful if you’re having trouble accessing a particular emotion, or if you want to add more intensity to your performance.

Another way to use emotions in your acting is to imagine yourself in the situation of your imaginary circumstances. This is by some called “method acting,” and it involves getting into the mindset of your character and feeling what they would feel in the given situation. There are all types of ways to get yourself into a real-time experience when acting.

The Actors Emotions Triangle is imperative knowledge to craft your own talent.

Feelings are often fleeting until they become deep. Deep Feelings if sat on for some time, can become Emotions. An Emotion will more likely stay with you during your acting interactions.

Finding a feeling to work with in your acting is far different than finding an Emotion. Finding and Emotion will often take more patience. Once the Emotion is there, it will be more likely to show up in your work.

When an Emotion is activated in an Actor it becomes current, alive and responsive. The ability to receive another when you yourself have an active emotion is the test of the authenticity of that emotion.

Learning the skills to find your own emotions is an absolutely necessity in art. This Journal enables you to find your own, and current emotional life to use in your art form.

Actors Activation Journal Instructions:

Work with the Journal and one of Simon’s Emotions lists on this website.
There is a $5 version in the store, which helps Simon pay the bills.

Use the Emotions Listed to identify between 5-20 Emotions that you have an interest in. Find Emotions that you may have slight inclinations (feelings) towards or that in some way resonate with you.

Write Down the Emotion
Write Down 2-4 Real-Life Experiences you recall where you felt that emotion.
Write Down 2-4 Real-Life Experiences you have witnessed others experiencing that specific Emotion.
Write Down 1-3 Imaginary Conditions that if you were in, you would feel that exact emotion.

At first use bullet point forms.

Then after you structured the experiences with bullet points, write more in full sentences if it helps you deepen the feelings into emotions. Expand that emotional range by working that exact emotion.

Example.
Johnny Osh, looks down the emotions list. The emotion of Regret stands out and he feels a shock spark of reaction. Johnny circles that emotion. As John goes down that list, Despair, Shame, Giddiness, and Elation all stand out to him for some yet to be explored reasons.

2-4 Real-Life Experiences that Johnny Osh remembers:
Bullet Point:
– divorce papers flash across John’s mind as he remembers a flash of regret with Maxine
– Johns gut wrenches as he recalls the opportunity that he said no to when offered Crypto Currency in 2008. Right after Leamans crashed the new system was started and he knew about bitcoin at bellow ten cents!
– the identity paperwork swapping that he did in that one country to back deal land in Scotland would bring out Regret.

2-4 Real-Life Experiences that Johnny Osh saw in others:
– his brother went to jail for frauding the nutrient company from their ingredients.

– If Johnny lost his house to a bad bet, he could imagine that he would feel regret.

How Acting Can Become Art with Emotion

Freedom of Released Emotion becomes Art in Acting once reality meets function.

When you release active emotion into your acting work you release an unpredictable element. Emotion releases spontaneous action into acting.

Art includes the interpretation from the audience how they identify with the emotion. When an Actor releases an active emotion within a scene audiences can enjoy the discovery of what occurs in real-time.

How to Work with Emotion

Work with emotions that you are capable of being free with working.

If you work with emotions that are too deep you won’t feel the personal freedom to express them. Freedom of expression is key when working with emotion.

Activating Emotions is the key part of the Emotional Preparation Technique.

Knowing how to work with emotion does take time to practice achieving. You can work with the emotions that you can activate and juggle to get into your acting work. Remember, even when you have activated emotions you want to train yourself to receive the other Actor. That discipline will gift your acting with both your experience and the others.

Activate your Emotion, Release it, then Let it Find you in your Acting

The trick of working with emotions is to release it.

There is an old saying, if it loves you, it will, love you back.

Emotions when you activate them prior to your acting spark sometimes a tremendous emotion. The discipline in acting is to be willing to release it, at least enough to receive your acting partner. Then, you see if the emotion will find you again in the acting interaction.

This approach is a road that needs to be taken by more Actors. This technique develops your abilities to really achieve incredible acting technique.

Just Remember: Activate your Emotion, then Release it, and start acting interaction. See if the emotion returns inside the Imaginary Conditions of your acting experience!

Residue Left after Acting

Almost every acting exercise that activates your emotional life will have some residue of emotion remaining.

Working with Residue left after acting is part of the job for the Actor.

Left over Acting emotions if not released could become readily activated in your life. If you are doing a play with your Regrets and you work with Regret in your scenes. It is common for Regret to revisit you after your acting performance. This is when many Actors hit the bottom to perk themselves up instead of simply learning acting techniques that can release that emotion.

There is no shame in using Emotional Release Techniques or Emotional Meditation Technique to release your Acting Baggage.

How to Release Emotional Baggage

As you learn as an actor to intentionally find your talent, you need to learn as an Actor to intentionally release your talent. Of course, you will also have that artistic spark the more you work with your emotions. But the emotions will not be active if you release them after acting.

Letting go of the Active Emotions is key
Learning to un-attach your emotions from the acting circumstances are also key.

Emotional Meditation Technique

The use of Emotional Meditation Technique will amplify your abilities to invite specific emotions into your internal space.

There are two parts of the Emotional Meditation Technique.

First,
Inviting the Emotions to expand the depth of that emotion internally.
Repeating this step over and over to continue to build that specific emotion helps to expand the Actors emotional range.
Next, Releasing the fully all of the emotion as best you can.
Last, Go back and continue to release that emotion if and when you feel residues of it.

Emotional Activation

The absolute benefit to the actor to show emotions naturally is Emotional Activation.

Using the Activations Journal you can record the emotions that are currently active in you. Then use those emotions to do your own acting.

An Actor acting without activated emotion is like going swimming in a swimming pool without water. You can still go through the actions of swimming, but the experience will be different in acting with activated emotions.

Many Actors learn to use Emotional Preparations, but they forget to do the step of Emotional Activation. Emotional Activations goes beyond deciding an intent of feelings for a scene.

There is Being and There is Doing

It is true that acting is doing, but only, when doing involves Interaction.

Acting is Interaction and Activation!

If you are doing the doing of acting, you are doing the interaction during your acting. If you forget to add the Being side of acting work, then you forget to add your own emotion into your acting experiences.

When you add the BEing side of the Acting work to your acting you gift an emotional spark into your acting work. Being adds spark of emotions, emotional depth, inner life, Emotional Activation and Emotional Preparation.

Intentionally having the talent to affect your Being prior to your acting experiences you can enrich your own acting exercises and scene work.

Knowing that there is a Being side of acting is how to show Emotion in Acting.

Showing Emotion Naturally Through Interaction

Showing emotion by presenting it is performance. Performance can fit into the interaction of acting. Realism is the ability to find your emotional expressions without the need to present them.

Showing emotions naturally will unfold emotions through interaction.

How To Show Emotion in Acting is by receiving, listening and responding your acting partner.

Trusting Emotions will Show Up

When you learn to act with talent in acting you start to trust that your own emotions will become active within your scene work.

Working to activate your emotions warms up your internal emotions that will tend to come out within your acting interaction. You let go and Drop your Emotional Preparation at the Door, but, you expect that it will, and often it does show up again in your acting exercises and scenes.

The key in trusting your emotions, is to receive the other Actor regardless of your own Emotional Activation.

Befriend your own emotions, as friends. Invite your friends in, your emotions, then release them after your acting work. Don’t carry the baggage of the Emotions after your acting work.

Feelings are Lesser Than Emotions

Knowing that Feelings are Lesser than Emotions helps you to be able to use your feelings more accurately.

Feelings are inclinations until they become deep enough to become close to Emotions.

How To Show Emotion in Acting is by doing acting with your instincts and with interaction. Feelings are the indicators that help to feed your instincts. You can amplify your awareness, impulsiveness and spontaneity by working with your feelings as instinctual feelers.

Acting is Crafted Emotion Activations

Crafting Activated Emotion to match desired emotional ranges in a scene is part of Emotional Preparation.

The actions to craft activations require emotional self-stimulation.

You literally will have to break your own heart or allow yourself to experience a real-life recollection of heartbreak to activate heartbreak for your acting.

The KEY in working with Crafted Emotional Activations is Receiving of others. Even when you yourself are affected, the only way to gain the activated emotion into your acting work is by ways of receiving. Sure, you could fake the emotions, blurt out the emotions, and perform out in a complete genuine vomit, but if, you receive your partner, both you and your partner, will go on the emotional ride.

Emotional Meditation Technique

Emotional Meditation Technique is the intentional practice of inviting in a specific emotion to fill yourself up internally, and then, releasing it completely. Often times after deep Meditation on an emotion you may have to release the emotion more times than you have needed to invite it in.

Meditation works both as a manifestation technique for gaining feel-good emotions and a manifestation technique to for gaining not-so-good to feel emotions.

You benefit as an Actor to learn how to meditate both good and bad emotions.

Actors need both good and bad activated emotions. How Actors Prepare for Emotional Scenes for an outcome to feel Regret in a scene requires the Actor to achieve through Emotional Meditation Technique Regret.

Regret, Sorrow, Foulness, need to all be friends of the Actor working with emotions.

Next, write down 2-4 experiences where you have seen others in that specific emotional state. Use Bullet Points at first, and then work to write more later if you wish. Key details are important so you can later use the materials you write to activate your own emotions.

Next, write down 1-3 Imaginary Experiences that, if true, you would be in an expression of that specific emotional state. You can get very creative as you brainstorm reasons that if true, you would feel regret, shame, elation, despair, or heartbreak.

Use the Activations Journal to find your own talent. Find your Emotions, Find your Talent!

Feelings have limitations in creativity until they reach depth of emotion.

The Activations Journal is a great way to start to record and brainstorm how to take your feelings deeper. You want to achieve depth with you by finding the emotion that is deeper beneath the feeling.

Brainstorm real-life recollections or imaginary conditions that would put you further into the emotion rather than staying within the feeling.

Taking yourself Deeper as an Actor will make your work richer and more in plight with having an imaginary sleigh ride of experience.

Matching an emotional range to an intended emotion of scene work takes skill. It takes skill to be able to know what emotions the acting scene work materials are asking for. And it takes skill to achieve finding the matching emotions within the Actor.

Your emotional responses will color the acting work like a painter uses different colors to add contrast. Emotions add contrast to undercurrent the logic of the scene.

Logical Answers may be accurate but not as expressive as emotional responses.

A painter can paint using only two colors, but everything changes after adding the third. Acting with Emotion is like adding a 3rd color to a painting Pallette. Once a third color is added it often can create many more varieties on the Pallette.
